Coffee
At the turn of the century, on a distant coffeelands rooftop in Oaxaca, Mexico a revolutionary idea was considered. Spawned from a recognition that coffee wasn’t reaching its potential, with farmers mostly forgotten in the quality equation, disconnected from the economic rewards, the Direct Trade movement was born. It has since taken hold worldwide. The old coffee cowboys who blazed that trail are back at it again. Their work connects Colombia and Mexico with Austin, TX benefitting from three decades of hard-earned lessons and wisdom. The Meteor Coffee Company is taking a bold step in this concept of partnership, offering carefully sourced and in-country roasted coffees from Colombia and Mexico that reflect a reality overlooked by the industry: coffee quality is mostly a function of what happens at its root. This approach makes good on the promise of specialty coffee for farmers, farmworkers and local coffee professionals whose work has long been invisible and undervalued. We make sauces you can add to just about anything -- and trust us, we’ve been doing so since we opened the doors of our cafe, The Meteor, on South Congress Avenue.

Indigenous, spontaneous, and native yeast abound. A grab bag of old standbys and new discoveries. Delivered monthly on the second Thursday.
